Both these security lapses can cause major damage to the important information of the company. The job of an IT Security specialist is to ensure that the systems and servers of the company are safely secured against cyber crime such as hacking and virus attacks. Their job may also include providing training to employees and customers on how to guard their systems against cyber crime.

  • Monitoring the security arrangements in the company and ensure that the systems are always secure
  • Upgrading the security arrangements for enhanced security
  • Training employees in the company or customers in enhanced security measures
  • Keeping in touch with the latest developments in the field of systems security and recommending latest upgrades
  • Organize the information in the systems such that they are not susceptible for unauthorized leaks
  • Install virus guards in all systems and upgrade regularly
  • Prepare guidebooks and manuals on systems security
  • Record security breaches and investigate cause and source of leak

IT security specialist skills and specifications

  • Excellent knowledge regarding system security measures
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills in case security breach has been detected
  • Good communication and problem solving skills
  • Good analytical skills

IT security specialist education and qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology or MCSE
  • Certification courses such as MCDST, CCENT, MCTS or an equivalent certification is very helpful
  • Work experience in systems security and information technology field for at least three years is essential is most cases
